The event celebrates the incredible widening project of this historic bridge, enhancing its place as a featured icon on city’s skyline since 1935. Runners will enjoy a professional race experience and the first 1,500 finishers will receive a commemorative pint glass for making the crossing, an event tee and a post-race celebration with local music and dishes (some for free and others for a fee). Runners and walkers will make this exciting crossing of the wider-than-ever bridge while reminiscing old times on the Mississippi River. COURSE

START


The Huey P. Run will start at 8:00 a.m.

The start will be in Bridge City on the Westbank. Shuttles will be provided on the Eastbank starting in the Clearview and Jefferson Hwy parking lots.  Runners will get a chance to survey the course from the shuttles.

The start will feature music and a National Anthem ceremony before runners/walkers hit a short stretch before going vertical, up the NEW Huey P Long Bridge.

COURSE


The bridge will be blocked to traffic during the race to ensure the safety of all runners/walkers. A water station and port-o-potty will be positioned within the course for convenience. Spectators will not be allowed on the bridge during the race, but will have safe areas to cheer runners as they descend the structure and head for home.

FINISH

Runners/walkers will hit the afterburners for the home stretch into the Finish Line chute. A professional finish line structure, music, spectators and volunteers cheering you in.

SHUTTLE STAGING, FINISH LINE, DEDICATION & AFTER PARTY

Shuttles will start running at 6:30 a.m. and will run participants over in 10-15 minute intervals, dependent upon volume.

CONQUER THE MIGHTY MISSISSIPPI & JOIN US FOR THE 2ND ANNUAL LOUISIANA BRIDGE RUN SERIES


The Great Huey P Long Bridge run is proud to be a part of the 2014 Louisiana Bridge run series. Participants must complete all 3 Bridge Runs:

All Series Finishers of the three races in the Louisiana Bridge Run Series will receive a Commemorative Series Medallion & be invited to a unique Awards Ceremony after the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent Connection on June 7, 2014. Top finishers by age group receive a unique commemorative award. The overall male & female winners will be crowned “King and Queen of the Mississippi River” in honor of their vertical achievements. 

Cumulative finishing times from all 3 Bridge Runs will be used for awards (*Please note: if you run the 10k course in the United Way Bridge Run, your 10k time will be used in calculating results; no splitting of times will be allowed).  Overall Male & Female finishers will be crowned “King & Queen of the Mississippi” and top male & female finishers by age group will also receive unique commemorative awards.”
